Flames loss to Zebras is same old story – Pasuwa

Malawi senior national football team coach Kalisto Pasuwa has described the Flames 3-1 loss to Botswana on post-match penalties on Sunday as the same old story.

Winless in five games in all competitions, the Zimbabwean bemoaned poor finishing as being behind his team’s loss during the 61st Independence Celebrations cup game played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

“It is a game that we dominated. The chances we had in the first half, we could have gone three up, but again we were failing to put the ball behind the net and the opposition came on us, one mistake and we got punished in the first minute of the second half,” the coach told Football Association of Malawi media.

The former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets handler observed that similar problems of failing to score were evident during the COSAFA Cup in South Africa recently. The Flames came back without scoring in three group stage matches.

“It is the same old story. We have been talking of a team that we are rebuilding. In other areas we play very well starting from the back. We are solid, it is in the last third that we are making mistakes. Same old mistakes that we are making on transitions all the time we end up conceding a goal,” the coach added.

The Flames came from behind to force the draw with the Zebras in regulation time during the friendly only to lose in post-match penalties. Pasuwa has now gone five games without a win.
