Fofana shines as Stade Rennais fans vote him August’s best

Ivorian midfielder Seko Fofana has been named Player of the Month for August by fans of French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais FC. The relentless midfielder was voted for by supporters of the Breton club after a string of impressive performances.

Rennais kicked off their Ligue 1 campaign in August with a big win over Olympique de Marseille. Although the club suffered a huge 4-0 loss against Lorient, Fofana had a good display during the month.

Fofana started all three matches as Rennais sit in ninth place on the log standings with four points.

Rennais stated that Fofana, 30, won the accolade for his leadership in midfield and tackling. The former RC Lens and Udinese player is now in the Ivory Coast national side camp for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup African Zone qualifier ties against Burundi and Gabon.

The influential midfielder joined Rennais after a brief spell in the Saudi Pro League.

Fofana started the majority of matches in the second half of the 2024/25 season at Rennais.
