Former NPFL co-leading scorer Charles Atshimene helped his club in Vietnam, Quang Nam, snap a seven-match winless streak in the V.League on Tuesday with a two-goal performance in Quang Nam's 2-0 victory over Hong Linh Ha Tinh.
The 24-year-old striker was on target for the hosts who were in dire need of a victory. The former Akwa United and Warri Wolves marksman finished from a cross in the 56th minute to put Quang Nam ahead against top-5 side Hong Linh.
Atshimene finished off the victory in stoppage time with a shot between the goalkeeper's legs after running onto a clever backheel pass from The Tai Hoang. Quang Nam moved up to 10th place on the 14-team table in Vietnam's top flight with the victory.
Despite his team's struggles, Atshimene is enjoying a strong season individually. He has 9 goals in 22 matches this season, tied for fifth best in the league with two other players. The Nigerian moved to Quang Nam after scoring 9 goals in 15 matches last season with fellow V.League 1 side Binh Duong and plays alongside countryman Ugochukwu Oduenyi.
After scoring 19 goals in 27 appearances with Akwa United during the 2020-21 season, Atshimene moved to Europe but struggled to find success with Portuguese second tier sides Feirense (owned by Nigerian businessman Kunle Soname) and Leixões as well as Albanian top flight side KF Bylis.
