Powerful Ivorian striker Ibrahim Diabate is in full flight in Sweden's Allsvenskan. The 25-year-old graduate of the ASEC Mimosas academy has now scored in four consecutive league matches for GAIS, providing a goal and an assist in Saturday's 3-0 victory over Norrköping.
Diabate opened the scoring with a header in the 18th minute and assisted the final goal to extend GAIS' unbeaten run to five matches. He is now the league's leading scorer with eight goals along with two assists in twelve league games.
It is an unexpected rise for the striker who played a bit role last season for Västerås as the club finished dead last in the Allsvenskan on their way to relegation. Diabate was signed in 2018 by Spanish club Mallorca, mostly appearing for the club's reserve team and also spending time on loan with Sevilla's reserve team as well.
But now Diabate is finally blossoming for GAIS. The club's technical staff clearly saw potential in the striker's physical profile despite only managing 4 goals in 36 games over two seasons with Västerås. Now set for a month-long break during the FIFA window, Diabate will attempt to make it five games in a row with a goal when GAIS return to action against Häcken on June 29.
