Former CAF Deputy Secretary Anthony Baffoe pays tribute to late Ghana striker Mfum

Former Confederation of African Football Deputy General Secretary, Anthony Baffoe has paid a glowing tribute to late Ghana striker Wilberforce Mfum.


Mfum, who won the 1963 Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana, sadly passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the age of 88 following a short illness.


Mfum's death plunged the football fraternity in the West African nation into mourning. Baffoe, who played for Ghana at the 1992 and the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations, wrote a heartwarming message about the ex-Asante Kotoko player.


"A towering figure in Ghanaian football, Wilberforce Mfum, has sadly passed away. His impact on the beautiful game and his legacy as a true champion will forever remain in our hearts. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Rest in eternal peace, Legend," Baffoe posted on social media.


Mfum per available records, scored 20 goals in 26 appearances for Ghana and featured at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo. At club level, he starred for Asante Kotoko before traveling to the United States to feature for clubs such as Baltimore Bays, Ukrainian SC, Ukrainian Nationals, and New York Cosmos.
