Former Ghana goalkeeper, Stephen Ahorlu can still not wrap his head around the Black Stars failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The four time African champions missed out on the continental football showpiece after finishing bottom of group F on 3 points from six qualifying games - behind Niger in third, Sudan in second and leaders, Angola. It will the first in 20-years that Ghana will be absent from the competition and that has stirred pains across the nation of which the former goalkeeper is no exception.
"It was a big blow to Ghana, especially we the old players. Six matches without a win is the most important thing that is really a worry to me. A group with Angola, Niger and Sudan without winning a match is a blow for us," Stephen Ahorlu told Pan-Africa Football.
"Football is like that but for me in particular, I'm really worried about that. Our players did not fight well and I don't know if they have a problem in camp because if Ghana plays, you can see that we force to score but this qualifiers we can't see the pushing of the people more.
“We are just playing and when a mistake comes they concede," Ahorlu added.
Ahorlu, 36, who was a squad member of the Black Stars team that reached the quarterfinals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, believes that, all problems must be ironed out to ensure qualification for the 2026 edition hosted by Canada, Mexico and the USA.
"What I can say much is, if they have a problem, if there was a problem that made us not qualify for the AFCON, they should sit and find solution to those problems.
"They should call players who are ready to fight for Ghana so that we can qualify for the World Cup." Stephen Ahorlu told Pan-Africa Football.
Ghana currently have nine points with Comoros in Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers - two points better than Madagascar, four ahead of Mali, five away from Central Africa Republic with Chad bottom after four games. The Black Stars resume action next March with a home match against Chad.
