Former Nigeria U-17 captain Samson Tijani set for Dukla Prague move

Former Nigeria under-17 national team captain Samson Tijani will hope to revive a once promising career as he is set to complete a move to Czech Republic top flight club Dukla Prague.

Tijani is expected to complete a transfer from top Austrian club RB Salzburg, where he has failed to establish himself since joining the club in 2020.

The 23-year-old, who has had to endure a couple of long-term injuries, will arrive in the Czech Republic on Wednesday and is expected to undergo medicals on Thursday.

He joined Red Bull Salzburg in 2020 and has failed to establish himself at the club, making just three league appearances.

Since joining RB Salzburg, Tijani has gone out on several loan spells aimed at gaining experience and playing time. After his initial move, he was immediately loaned out to fellow Austrian Bundesliga side TSV Hartberg for the 2020-2021 season. During his time at Hartberg, he made 18 appearances.

He then spent the 2021-2022 season on loan at FC Liefering, RB Salzburg’s feeder club, in the Austrian 2. Liga where he played 16 matches and, again. Following almost a year out due to injury, Tijani returned to the Austrian Bundesliga on loan with Wolfsberger AC for the 2023-2024 season, were he made 28 appearances and scored his first senior career goal.

The 2024 season saw the Nigerian loaned to Norwegian Eliteserien club Fredrikstad FK, where he made 4 appearances. Meanwhile with RB Salzburg, Tijani has only made a handful of appearances which came during the 2021-22 season.

He captained the Nigeria under-17 national team, the Golden Eaglets, to a Round of 16 finish at the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.
