Congolese forward Ben Malango’s adventure in the Gulf Region is continuing strongly in the second tier of Saudi football, with the former Raja Casablanca and TP Mazembe star contributing a hat-trick in Al Zulfi’s 4-1 victory at Al Arabi.

The veteran forward, who is a two-time CAF Confederation Cup champion with Raja and Mazembe, is on fire since joining his current club midway through the ongoing campaign from Qatari club Qatar SC. He has seven goals in ten matches since debuting for Al Zulfi at the end of January.
On Tuesday, he showed all of his excellent goal scoring instincts. A sliding finish from Brazilian playmaker Diego Miranda’s cross in the 2nd minute got the visitors off to a dream start. After an own goal from the hosts doubled the lead, Malango leaped to head in a cross that looped over the Al Arabi goalkeeper to make it 3-0 before halftime.
The hat-trick was complete in the 68th minute when the Congolese converted a penalty kick.
With six matches remaining after Tuesday’s result, Malango and his club are launching one final push to remain in contention for promotion to the Saudi Pro League from the First Division League (FDL). However, they will need to maintain flawless form since Al Jabalain, holders of the final promotion playoff spot in 6th place, are ten points clear.

But Malango has added notable firepower to his team’s attack. He now has scored in his last five matches, accumulating seven goals during this stretch to make him the league’s most in-form forward at the moment.
A physically imposing striker, Malango was crucial during his two victorious CAF Confederation Cup campaigns. During the 2017 edition, he scored six goals to lead all scorers as TP Mazembe overcame South Africa’s SuperSport United to capture the trophy. In the 2020-21 edition, he combined forces with current Moroccan international Soufiane Rahimi to win the continental trophy with Raja.
Malango was also named the Best Foreign Player in Morocco’s top flight Botola Pro that season. His success at the highest levels of African club football led to his current journey in the Middle East, where he has played in three countries including the top divisions of the United Arab Emirates with Al Sharjah as well as Qatar before moving to the FDL with Al Zulfi.
He and his club will look to continue their winning ways against a challenging opponent, second place Al Diriyah, next Monday at home.
