Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Neo Maema has officially joined Tanzanian giants Simba SC. The club announced the signing on Thursday after Maema cut ties with Sundowns, paving the way for his move to the Wekundu Wa Msimbazi.

Maema has already linked up with his new teammates in Ismailia, Egypt, where the club is holding a four-week pre-season camp. The midfielder, who captained Bafana Bafana at the recent CHAN tournament, traveled to Egypt immediately after the competition concluded in Kampala.

The move will see Maema work with South African head coach Fadlu Davids, who is in his second season with the club. Davids enjoyed a successful maiden term, guiding Simba to a second-place finish in the Tanzanian Premier League and a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup final.

Looking to build on that success and end Young Africans’ four-year dominance, Davids has been active in the transfer market, strengthening his squad with several major signings, including former Sundowns defender Rushine De Reuck.

Simba will rely on Maema’s experience, which includes four league titles, the Nedbank Cup, one MTN8, and the African Football League during his four seasons with Mamelodi Sundowns. The 29-year-old made 120 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals.
