Former Nigeria national team striker Brown Ideye has confirmed his departure from Nigeria Premier Football League giants Enyimba.
Ideye was a key member of the Super Eagles squad that swept every nation aside to clinch the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations – the nation’s third in their history.
The 36-year-old who previously featured for Bayelsa United moved to Europe in 2008, joining Swiss club Neuchatel Xamax before going on to play for clubs like Dynamo Kyiv, Olympiacos, West Bromwich Albion, Malaga and Goztepe.
Ideye returned home to play for Enyimba for six months after a short spell at Kuwaiti club Al Yarmouk. The former Tianjing Teda forward wrote on X: “To the Chairman, Staff, my teammates and fans of Enyimba FC thank you for the wonderful journey,” Brown Ideye wrote.
“It’s been an honour to wear the jersey and play for one of the biggest and best football club in Nigeria and Africa.
“As I move on, I’m grateful for the fond memories we created together on and off the pitch, and I appreciate the love, respect and support you all gave me from day one. This club will always have a great place in my heart. With Love and Appreciation.”
Ideye’s next move is unknown but he certainly looks like heading for retirement as he approaches his 37th birthday in October.
