The signing, announced via the club’s social media channels on transfer deadline day, will see Onyeka wear the #16 shirt for the Sky Blues. The club reportedly have an option to purchase the central midfielder on a permanent basis but only if they achieve promotion to the English top flight.
This move represents a fresh start for the 28-year-old, who has struggled for regular playing time at Brentford this season. Although he made nine appearances in all competitions for the Bees, he has yet to start a Premier League fixture this term.
He was a key player for the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, starting four matches and playing every minute of Nigeria’s semifinal penalty shootout defeat to the hosts following a 0-0 draw in Rabat.
Other Championship sides, including Birmingham City and Sheffield United, had reportedly been vying for the Nigerian international’s signature before he opted for the move to the club currently coached by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
