Dynamos FC coach Lloyd Chigowe says he is bracing for a difficult challenge against his Simba Bhora FC counterpart Joel Luphahla in Saturday’s Castle Challenge Cup in Harare.

Chigowe meets his former right-hand man for the first time on the opposite bench at Rufaro Stadium in Harare to curtain-raise the 2025 season.

Ahead of the game, Chigowe said he was unsure of what his former workmate Luphahla had 'cooked' tactically in the opposite camp.

“We know little of Simba. We know some of the names they have hired but we don’t know how they play as a combination. Joel and I were in the same dugout but it will be the first time being on the opposite end,” he told Dynamos’ media.

Luphahla, the former Zimbabwe international, has since welcomed the challenge of facing his mentor, while cautioning his wards against underrating Dembare.

“It will not be an easy game as we are up against difficult opponents. Dynamos always play better when people are not giving them much credit. We are coming up with perennial rivals,” he said.

Chigowe and Luphahla worked together last season as coach and deputy coach and won the Chibuku Super Cup. This season, the former winger opted to pick the job at Simba.

The Challenge Cup involves the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions (Bhora) and Chibuku Super Cup kings (Dynamos to curtain raise the 2025 Zimbabwe PSL kick-off season which kicks off next weekend.

After the Challenge Cup, Bhora will switch attention to the league race, opening the floor with a dance against FC Platinum whereas Highlanders face MWOS on day 1 of the action.

Other fixtures will see Dynamos taking on ZPC Kariba whereas Caps United and Greenfuel will sort it out in the opening week.
