Frimpong Manso sees GHALCA Top 4 as CAF Champions League prep

Head coach of Gold Stars, Frimpong Manso, has said that the 2025 GHALCA Top Four is a good pre-season exercise to help the team prepare for the upcoming 2025-26 CAF Champions League campaign.

The 2024-25 Ghana League champions opened the Top Four campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko at the Legon Sports Stadium this past Wednesday.

The Bibiani-based club will now face Hearts of Oak in the second match on Friday – a game Frimpong Manso looks forward to winning.

“All the three games are tough games [and] I think we like it that way because it will help us in our Africa campaign, we need those quality games,” he said.

“It’s just a preparation for teams going to Africa [and] the others are also using it to prepare their teams for the upcoming season, so it’s not like a challenge at all.

Gold Stars defied all odds to lift their maiden Ghana Premier League trophy at the expense of Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko last season.

They will represent Ghana at the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, where they are paired against Algeria’s JS Kabylie in the preliminary round of the competition.
