The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed the technical team that will steer the Uganda Cranes during the 2024 edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
Fred Muhumuza and Morley Byekwaso have been entrusted with leading the locally based Uganda Cranes squad in the continental tournament, which will take place from August 2 to 30, 2025. The CHAN 2024 finals will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania under the “Pamoja East Africa” initiative.
The pair will work under the strategic guidance of Uganda Cranes Head Coach Paul Put, who remains in charge of the team’s overall technical direction and performance during the competition.
Notably, Muhumuza and Byekwaso previously teamed up in an interim coaching capacity during Uganda’s international friendlies against Mali and Zambia in October 2023, following the departure of Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.
Byekwaso brings added pedigree to the role, having guided the Uganda Hippos to notable success, including a runners-up finish at the 2021 AFCON U20 and a silver medal at the 2024 African Games.
FUFA has indicated that the rest of the technical staff will be named later, ahead of the announcement of the final squad for the tournament.
The CHAN tournament, held every two years, is reserved for players actively competing in their respective domestic leagues across the continent.
