Gaborone United beat Jwaneng Galaxy FC 4-2 on Saturday to win the Botswana Premier League for the first time in three years.
Nicholaev Dimitri Pantev’s men not only claimed the maximum points at Gaborone United Stadium but also ended Galaxy’s 28-game unbeaten home run.
The champions hold a four-point advantage over second-placed TAFIC FC on the 16-member log table with one game to the finish line. Down the table, UF Santos are bound for relegation.
The title triumph assures United’s return to the next edition of the CAF Champions League.
It is a perfect reward for coach Pantev, who joined United in January 2025 after leaving Orapa United. On his unveiling, the Bulgarian declared that he had joined the team to win trophies.
“I am not here to waste your time,” the controversial trainer explained during his introduction. “I am here to win trophies. As I discussed with my former players at Orapa, there are only two teams that try to play modern football—you and Orapa. You try, you can, this is different.”
Pantev replaced Pontsho Moloi, who threw in the towel at United.
