Gabriel Osho joins Cardiff City, eager to start new chapter

Sky Bet Championship side Cardiff City officially announced the signing of Nigeria defender Gabriel Osho on a four-year deal on Friday.

The 27-year-old center-back arrives at the Cardiff City Stadium from French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre, and said he can’t wait to hit the ground running at new club Cardiff City.

Speaking to Cardiff TV shortly after finalizing the deal, a visibly excited Osho shared his readiness to repay the faith shown in him by the club’s management and fans.

“I’m really happy, and really excited. It’s been a long time in the works, so to finally be here at the stadium and in the city has been good. I’m buzzing to get going.”

The Nigerian defender also added that he wants to help the team win and keep clean sheets.

“I’ve been watching the games so far, and the atmosphere is amazing. Hopefully I can feed off the team’s momentum, get going straight away, and just keep the wins and the clean sheets going.”

Osho’s career trajectory has seen him rise through the ranks of English football. After starting at Reading, he made a name for himself at Luton Town, where he became an integral part of the squad that secured promotion to the Premier League in the 2022/23 season. He went on to make 21 top-flight appearances for the Hatters the following campaign, even scoring twice, with a memorable first Premier League goal against Arsenal.

With the player missing out on Nigeria’s provisional World Cup Qualifying squad list, Osho is expected to be fully focused on Cardiff’s League One clash against visiting Plymouth on Saturday. Cardiff are currently at the top of the table, undefeated through five games.
