The Gambia U-17 national side have started their preparation for the upcoming 2025 U17 African Cup of Nations in Morocco. The two times African champions are drawn in Group C against holders Senegal, Somalia and Tunisia.

The national team under the guidance of head coach Yahya Manneh vetted the players as the squad is trimmed to 30 now. The junior national side camped at the Gambia Football Federation’s (GFF) Technical Training Center. Manneh also included players from the WAFA Zone A qualifiers to his roster. GFF announced the team will continue its local preparation at the center.

Baby Scorpions, as they are nicknamed, coach Manneh acknowledged the group is a tricky one. “It’s a fair but tough group, and I believe it will set a much bigger challenge for both the players and staff to be at our best in all matches. The target for the team is a question that will be answered by the players as our role would be to guide them in achieving the goals set.”

Gambia coach Johnathan McKinstry visited the U17 national side preps as he encouraged players to achieve good results in Morocco. Gambia last appeared in the U17 AFCON in 2011. They will be making a return after a 14 years wait.
