Veteran Nigerian tactician Gbenga Ogunbote has officially confirmed his departure from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), bringing an end to his three-year tenure with the Ibadan-based giants.
The announcement was made by Ogunbote via his X (formerly Twitter) where he expressed gratitude to the club’s supporters for their backing throughout his stay at the club.
“My time with Shooting Stars has officially come to an end. I want to thank the fans, my players, technical crew, backroom staff, and everyone who supported me throughout this journey. Your love never went unnoticed,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shooting Stars Sports Club also released a statement acknowledging Ogunbote’s contributions and wishing him well for the future. The club’s message, shared on their official social media platforms, underscored the mutual respect between the coach and the institution.
“We say goodbye to Coach Gbenga Ogunbote as he steps down as Technical Adviser of Shooting Stars SC. Thank you for the moments, the passion, and the memories. Wishing you all the best in your next chapter.”
Ogunbote, often dubbed ‘The Oracle’ for his tactical acumen, during his three years, navigated various challenges, solidifying Shooting Stars’ presence in the top flight of Nigerian football.
This departure opens a new chapter for both Ogunbote, who is now a free agent and expected to be a sought-after commodity for other NPFL clubs, and for Shooting Stars, who will now embark on the search for a new technical adviser to lead them into the upcoming season.
