Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou has indicated his desire to stay at the Soweto giants beyond the end of his contract.
Matlou’s future will be decided by the Amakhosi at the end of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season when his contract is expected to run out. The 26-year-old has struggled to get more game time due to injury, managing just 14 appearances in all competitions under coach Nasreddine Nabi.
The talented midfielder was a second-half substitute when Chiefs defeated Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final at Moses Mabhida Stadium last Saturday, ending their nine-year wait for a trophy.
With the domestic season ending in the coming weeks, Matlou has revealed that he would love to remain with Amakhosi despite his contract ending in June 2025.
“I would love to stay at Kaizer Chiefs, of course. I’ll be happier and grateful if I were to stay,” Matlou told FARPost. “So being here at Kaizer Chiefs has been good and I would love to achieve good things with this team, but for now, the focus is on the remaining games.
“We want to do well in these remaining games, collect maximum points, and of course win the Nedbank Cup,” added Matlou. This desire became reality when Chiefs lifted the Nedbank Cup.
Matlou has been with the Glamour Boys for three seasons after joining from the now-defunct Moroka Swallows at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.
