Head coach of Gold Stars, Frimpong Manso has described their 2-1 win over Asante Kotoko in the GHALCA Top Four opener as a good pre-season exercise.
The Ghana Premier League champions nicked it past the FA Cup winners at the Legon Stadium on Wednesday – a result that stung the spines of the Kotoko fraternity.
The Porcupine Warriors had shot ahead before Gold Stars leveled through the penalty spot. A costly back-pass by Henry Ansu beat Mohamed Camara in the post for Kotoko.
Gold Stars next face Hearts of Oak who defeated Heart of Lions by 1-0 in the second game at the Legon Stadium on Friday August 22.
Frimpong Manso said: “It’s been good for us in terms of motivation because our players, they will be motivated them in this tournament because a team like Kotoko and you are playing your first game, for me I think that alone puts pressure on us,” Frimpong Manso said.
“But once they have been able to deal with it, I think in going forward, they will do well in the next games. For me it’s not about the win, I want to see my players in a big occasion like this how they will play and for me I think they did just that although we still have a lot of mistakes to correct.” He added.
Gold Stars will represent Ghana in next season’s CAF Champions League where they are paired against Algeria’s JS Kabylie in the preliminary round.
