GHALCA Top 4: “Heart of Lions will pick up pieces from Hearts of Oak loss” – Bashir Hayford

Heart of Lions were looking to avoid a second defeat to Hearts of Oak going into their opening game of the 2025 GHALCA Top Four competition.

Lions had lost 2-0 to the Phobians in the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Cup last Sunday and they could not stop a second defeat, falling by 1-0 in the Top Four competition at the Legon Stadium on Wednesday.

Head coach of Heart of Lions, Bahsir Hayford has reacted to the second successive loss to Hearts of Oak.

“Tactically we played everything only that the goals didn’t come and we had an own goal, our defender just headed the ball into the net so that is football.

“So we will go back again, it’s an all-play-all, we are done with Hearts of Oak [and] we are left with two teams and we are going to prepare and face them,” Bashir Hayford said.

“So yes once again we have lost to Accra Hearts of Oak and it’s no news. It gives me a lesson so I know where to continue again because I have seen a lot from the two games.

“We are just preparing for the season, the team has not gelled yet. We are preparing the team for the league, all these matches are preparatory matches for the league and it’s good for us. We will now try some boys and I have leant a lot from it.

Heart of Lions will next play Asante Kotoko in the second game of the competition. Kotoko lost their opening matches by 2-1 against Bibiani Gold Stars.
