Ghana midfielder Abu Francis delighted with steady recovery

Ghana has been given a boost ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the steady recovery of midfielder Abu Francis who sustained a horrible injury in an international friendly.

The 24-year-old suffered a double fracture in the Black Stars international friendly against Japan last November at the Toyota Stadium, a game the four time African champions lost 2-0.

The Toulouse midfielder gave a positive update on his recuperation in a video shared by the Ghana Football Association.

“My recovery is going well. I just want to say a very big thank you for the love and support you have shown the Black Stars this year, during the hard times and the good times, and most especially for me during the injury I faced in Japan. Your support and words are really healing me, and they have given me the courage to keep pushing.

“I hope to see you all soon on the field. I just want to wish everyone a happy New Year, and please continue to support the Black Stars.”

Francis fractured his tibia and fibula on November 14, 2025, during a Kirin Cup match against Japan but his recovery might open the door for a chance to be part of coach Otto Addo’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, USA and Mexico.
