Ghana Transfer: Albert Amoah returns to Kotoko

The 2025/26 Ghana transfer window slammed on Thursday at 11:59pm with clubs scrambling for signatures of players to augment their squads for the remainder of the season and beyond.

Ghana’s player transfer system is often characterized by skeletal information with contractual issues and remuneration shrouded in secrecy.

That notwithstanding, there were some big talking-points and player movements before the window shut and one those was the return of Albert Amoah to Asante Kotoko on loan for the rest of the season.

Albert Amoah joined Kotoko from Great Olympics

The 24-year-old joined Libya outfit, Al Ahly Benghazi on the night Asante Kotoko were pummeled 5-1 by Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup in Casablanca.

His move was however rocked by financial obligations as the Libyan outfit failed to pay a dime of Albert Amoah’s transfer fee to Kotoko, prompting the Porcupine Warriors to threaten actions against the North African club.

Amoah’s return to Kotoko sparked several questions as to whether he failed to fit into the scheme of things.

The former Great Olympics striker scored 15 goals in 29 appearances prior to signing for Al Ahli Benghazi but only featured in friendly games for the club before returning home.

He is expected to add some bite in Kotoko’s attack who have struggled to score goals in the second half of the season.
