Ghana international, Antoine Semenyo has opened up on Bournemouth’s acclaimed campaign in the English Premier League this past season.

The Cherries recorded great performances, finishing in 9th on 56 points at the end of the season. Their dream of playing in Europe was dashed but Semenyo, who rose to the occasion for the club, says it was a fine end to the term.

“I think it started from pre-season, really. I think everyone was just ready to go. Kind of repeat what we'd done the season before. And I think we've exceeded the expectations, really,” he said.

“So, I think it stems down to the philosophy working again: those intensive speeds and just that mentality. I think everyone's mentality is top here and our place in the table shows that,” he told Showmax in an interview.

Semenyo also revealed how he turned down several clubs to join Bournemouth. The 25-year-old joined the Cherries in January 2023 for a fee worth £10 million on a four-and-a-half-year contract from Bristol City. Since his arrival at the club, Semenyo has become a key player for the side playing 81 games and scoring 20 goals.

"I had a few clubs that were quite interested. But Bournemouth had kept track from that summer through to the World Cup, through to January, so their interest was really strong," Semenyo said.

"They were watching me, checking up on me, and that shows how good the club is. They were so interested.

"Yeah, I knew that my heart was set on joining Bournemouth even though I was having interest and I just never looked back from when I signed," he added.

Semenyo enjoyed a brilliant season, scoring 11 goals and amassing five assists. Following his explosive performance, Semenyo has been linked to Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
