Ghana FA Cup: Asante Kotoko fight back to eliminate Future Stars FC

Asante Kotoko began defending the MTN FA Cup with a spirited performance, fighting back from an early first half goal down to beat Future Stars FC 2-1 in the round of 64 on Wednesday.

The Porcupine Warriors were walking on a thin line between success and failure having gone four Ghana Premier League matches without a win.

The reigning champions needed the win badly to soothe their angry fans but they were hypnotized with just nine minutes into the first half when Future Stars found the opener.

Kotoko had to step up their performance a notch higher to find the equalizer through the effort of midfielder Hubert Gyau in the 72nd minute, a moment that calmed tensions among the few supporters in the stands.

As many thought the game would head into the penalty shootouts, the record Ghana Premier League holders dug deep to carry the day. Pater Amidu Acquah was well positioned in Future Stars area to smash home the winner in added time.

Asante Kotoko have now qualified for the round of 32 of the MTN FA Cup and they will turn their attention to the Ghana Premier League match week 14 at home to Dreams FC on Sunday December 14. The ten time FA Cup champions have managed to collect 21 points, same as Hearts of Oak and Samartex from 13 matches into the season.
