Asante Kotoko’s quest to lift the Ghana FA Cup for the tenth time will face a stern test when they clash against Berekum Chelsea in the semi-finals at the Tarkwa TnA Park in Takoradi on Sunday, May 11.
The Porcupine Warriors have a slim chance of winning the Ghana Premier League as they sit 4th on 51 points, two away from Gold Stars and Heart of Lions, and adrift from leaders Nations FC after 30 matches. They will want to go all out to lift the FA Cup, which would take them to the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
Asante Kotoko interim head coach, Karim Zito has admitted that the encounter against Berekum Chelsea will not come easy. Speaking in a pre-match interview ahead of the fixture, Coach Abdul Karim Zito said his team is determined to fight to advance to the final.
“It’s never easy. It’s very difficult. I know what he [Coach Samuel Boadu] can do as a coach. It’s been a long time since we won this cup, so we are all eager to win."
Kotoko, who are the record Ghana Premier League holders, will square off with the former Ghana Premier League winners at 3pm. The winner will advance to face the winner between Golden Kick and Attram de Visser Sporting Club, which will be played at the same venue on Saturday, May 10.
Attram De Visser head coach, Godwin Attram, says his side will give their all to win the 2024/25 MTN FA Cup. The Division One side have been one of the best performers in the competition this term, beating Bibiani GoldStars in the round of 16 before eliminating fellow Division One side PAC Academy in the quarter-finals to book a place in the last four.
Speaking ahead of the clash, founder and coach of the club, Godwin Attram, assured that they will give everything to ensure they win the competition.
“Why should we play and waste our time throughout? A hundred and something clubs and at the final, end the ultimate," he told 3Sports. "You have the chance and an opportunity from almighty God to win the cup, and you won’t kill yourself to go to the CAF Championship?
“It’s an honour and exposure for the players if you really want to market the academy. If we are able to win the competition, we will represent Ghana at the Confederation Cup.”
A win for Attram De Visser will see them take on Berekum Chelsea or Asante Kotoko in the finals, which will be hosted at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
