Ghana forward Ernest Nuamah announces imminent return from injury

Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad would be boosted as Olympique Lyonnais forward Ernest Nuamah is on the verge of returning to the pitch after months on the sidelines.

The 22-year-old former Nordsjaelland winger tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a Ligue 1 fixture against Lille back in April, a situation that saw him out of Ghana’s remaining 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The left-footed winger is yet to feature for Olympique Lyon in the current domestic top-flight season due to the injury setback, but he is now close to returning for manager Paulo Fonseca’s side, and he took to social media to announce his imminent return.

Injury Relief for Ghana as Ernest Nuamah Signals Quick Comeback

“A man who is through the storm won’t fear the rain. He’s seen the toughest times, faced the hardest battle and still stands tall. Every setback has shaped him. Lead me to the starting line. Soon, soon, soon,” said Ernest Nuamah.

Nuamah scored a stunning equaliser as Ghana rallied from a goal down to beat Mali 2-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in Bamako. He has been capped 18 times with four goals by the four-time African champions, who are paired in Group L against Panama, England and Croatia for the World Cup to be co-hosted by Canada, the USA and Panama.
