A new wind is blowing at Ghana Premier League club Nations FC following the appointment of experienced coach, Stephen Frimpong Manso.
Manso was hired to replace Kassim Mingle Ocansey who was made to leave the club after their 3-2 victory at home to strugglers Eleven Wonders in a week seven fixture.
The hierarchy of the club were however unhappy with the performance of coach Mingle and have now roped in the services of Manso, who won last season’s Ghana Premier League with GoldStars. The former Eleven Wonders coach has hailed the quality of the club.
“Nations FC is a strong team. The team has been in existence and has done well to this point. We’ve seen a lot of things and we believe we can work to improve the team.”
“I want to build a team that is strong enough to win titles and also play good football. I believe in a team that fights. Football has evolved and knowing how to play alone is not enough, but playing without the ball is the most important thing.”
“We will look at it critically and get the best out of the players. We will deal with the two key aspects of the game – with and without the ball. We will emphasize for the players to get that concept,” he told the club’s media.
Nations FC have struggled to replicate last season’s performance, collecting eight points from seven league matches and Manso wants to turn things around for the Abrankese based club.
“Nations FC have been a league contender in the past two seasons. Just last season, the club missed out on the title to Bibiani Goldstars in the last two matches of the campaign. Their output in the league since gaining promotion justifies how serious the club is. We’ve come to do our part to make sure we leave a mark here.”
Frimpong Manso led Gold Stars to the first leg CAF Champions League fixture against Algeria’s JS Kabylie where they lost 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium. He was sacked before the Miners suffered a 5-0 loss in the second leg.
