Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko have been dealt a huge blow ahead of the start of next season’s domestic and continental campaign.
The record Ghana Premier League holders have two forwards, Peter Amidu Acquah and Elvis Kyei Baffour ruled out for six weeks with injuries.
Amidu-Acquah and Kye-Baffour both suffered ankle injuries during their pre-season camping in the Central Regional capital of Ghana, Cape Coast. Both players are set to miss the start of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign which will kick start on September 12.
Kotoko, who won last season’s Ghana FA Cup, have been paired against Nigeria’s Kwara United for the preliminary round of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
A statement from the club read: “We have been dealt a double blow ahead of the second phase of our pre-season preparations in Cape Coast, as wingers Peter Amidu Acquah and Elvis Kyei Baffour have both been ruled out for six weeks with ankle injuries. Medical assessments conducted by the club’s medical team confirmed that the duo will likely miss the start of the new season” a statement from the club reads.
Kotoko will host their Nigerian opponent in Ghana on September 19 and 21, before travelling for the return fixture from September 26 to 28.
The Porcupine Warriors will face Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Casablanca in the second preliminary round if they are able to go past Kwara United over the two leg tie. The second preliminary round’s first leg is billed for October 17 and 19, with the reverse fixtures set between October 24 and 26.
