Head coach of Ghana’s senior female team Kaim Lars Bjorkegren has reacted positively to the team’s 2-0 defeat against England on Tuesday.
The Black Queens had been written off against England at the St Mary’s Stadium due to the Lionesses European success and the thrashing of China 8-0 prior to their clash against the West Africans.
Ghana walked into the game as 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations bronze medalists and a 3-1 friendly victory over Aston Villa women side.
The Swedish trainer stressed the need to improve the squad after patting the Black Queens in the back for a yeoman’s job.
“As a coach, you always want to win but we need to remind ourselves that we are 67th in the world ranking and faced a team that potentially are the best in the world right now. We can be proud of our performance, and we feel we are moving in the right direction and over all I am really happy,” Kim Lars Bjorkegren.
“We are very happy with a squad right now and we feel that in every camping we are moving in the right direction and we are doing better and better and almost all people can see that as well and we always want to be better so we are going to look at what we can improve, what we can make better.
Ghana conceded the first goal in the 5th minute and the second through a late VAR awarded penalty after captain Portia Boakye handled the ball in the area.
Lucia Kendall scored both goals for Sarina Wiegman’s girls. The Black Queens now shift their focus to preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which will run from 17 March to 3 April.
