Ghana Premier League: “Kotoko must brace for tough second half” – Kwesi Appiah

Asante Kotoko legend and Sudan national team head coach, Kwesi Appiah has predicted a tough second half of the Ghana Premier League season for the Porcupine Warriors.

Kotoko suffered a 2-1 loss at All Blacks on Sunday in week 17, ending a three match winning streak against Dreams fc, Eleven Wonders and Bechem United.

The defeat at All Black jolted their chances of closing the gap on Medeama SC who nailed Hearts of Oak 1-0 to go on 34 points after the final game of the first half of the season.

Kwesi Appiah who is a member of Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee [IMC] believes the club has a tall order in the second half of the season.

Kotoko lost for the first time in three matches

“We thank God that they are also picking up, it won’t be easy especially the second round so I am hoping that we try and pick up,” Kwesi Appiah told GTV SportsPlus.

“The first round some of them had just come to the team and they needed time and that is one of the key problems that we always have because we don’t have the patience but I understand they are picking up slowly [and] I hope the second round they are able to play and make Otumfour happy and everyone who supports Kotoko happy back home.”

Kwesi Appiah led Sudan to the round of sixteen of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco where they eventually exited after a 3-1 loss against Senegal.

Asane Kotoko are third on the Ghana Premier League table with 30 points, four behind leaders Medeama and two adrift of second placed and reigning champions GoldStars.
