Asante Kotoko’s confidence was bruised last weekend when they suffered a 1-0 loss against rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium in week 22 of the Ghana Premier League.
The Porcupine Warriors are away to Young Apostles in week 23, a game head coach Prince Owusu describes as “difficult.”
“We all know we are in a difficult times and those guys to if you paid attention to their result last weekend, I think they lost so they are going home to redeem themselves back and we are also going out there to make sure we get the three points,” Prince Owusu told Kotoko TV.
“So it’s not going to be an easy test for us but I think the boys are ready for it so we will try to deal with it and come out with three points.
Asante Kotoko sit in 6th on the league table with 35 points, nine behind leaders Medeama with Young Apostles in 16th on 27 points from 22 league game.
In another interesting fixture, Heart of Lions will host reigning champions GoldStars at the Kpando Stadium on Sunday and head coach of Heart of Lions Bashir Hayford says the team is prepared for the challenge.
“We started last week and we are preparing very well [because’ we know it is going to be a hard nut to crack but we are still preparing very well [and] as you can see everybody is geared up, everybody is prepared and I think the morale in camp is very high and so we are preparing as we prepare for all the matches,” Bashir Hayford told Heart of Lions TV.

The Asante Kotoko Ghana Premier League Week 23 clash against Young Apostles comes at a crucial time for the Porcupine Warriors. After suffering a painful 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium in Week 22, Kotoko’s confidence has taken a hit.
Now, Asante Kotoko must regroup quickly as they travel to face Young Apostles in what head coach Prince Owusu has described as a “difficult” encounter.
Speaking ahead of the fixture, Prince Owusu acknowledged the challenge awaiting his side.
“We all know we are in difficult times. Those guys, if you paid attention to their result last weekend, I think they lost so they are going home to redeem themselves back and we are also going out there to make sure we get the three points,” he told Kotoko TV.
Owusu emphasized that both teams will be desperate for redemption. Young Apostles, currently sitting 16th on the table with 27 points from 22 matches, are fighting to move away from the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Kotoko are 6th with 35 points — nine behind league leaders Medeama SC.
The Asante Kotoko Ghana Premier League Week 23 fixture therefore carries high stakes for both sides: survival ambitions for one, title aspirations for the other.
“It’s not going to be an easy test for us but I think the boys are ready for it so we will try to deal with it and come out with three points,” Owusu added.
Kotoko’s defeat to Hearts of Oak not only bruised their pride but also widened the gap at the top. With Medeama leading the standings, consistency is now non-negotiable for the Kumasi-based giants.
A slip-up against Young Apostles could severely dent their hopes of closing the nine-point deficit. Historically, Kotoko have thrived under pressure, but this season has been marked by inconsistency.
The coaching staff will be looking for improved finishing and defensive solidity after the narrow loss in the Super Clash. Away fixtures, especially against struggling teams fighting for survival, often prove tricky in the Ghana Premier League.
Elsewhere in Week 23, Heart of Lions host reigning champions GoldStars FC at the Kpando Stadium in another intriguing matchup.
Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has expressed confidence ahead of the clash.
“We started last week and we are preparing very well because we know it is going to be a hard nut to crack. Everybody is geared up, everybody is prepared and the morale in camp is very high,” Hayford told the club’s media.
Heart of Lions are currently outside the top-four race, but a victory against the champions could reignite their campaign and boost confidence heading into the final stretch of the season.
