Nations FC braved a turbulent storm in week 13 of the Ghana Premier League by fighting back to beat Heart of Lions 2-1 on Sunday.
The Abrankese based side had lost 1-0 at Holy Stars in the previous fixture, leaving the club in an awkward position ahead of the Lions encounter.
Heart Lions silenced the home fans in the 16th minute when Liberian import Chancy Freeman smashed home from inside the box.
Nations were gifted with an equalizer after Ruben Hennesy headed an in-swinging cross into his own net in the 36th minute before Samuel Tetteh’s late goal earned them all three points at the Dr. Kyei Complex.
Nations head coach, Frimpong Manso shared some words after the momentous victory.
“It was a very difficult game and we knew even before the week that [Heart of] Lions are a very good side and so it was going to be a difficult game,” Frimpong Manso said.
“So for me I wasn’t surprised about what happened in the game. I knew we could come back because even when we were down we were still creating some chances but we were not taking them so I believed that if we took our chances we could come back into the back.
“So for me I didn’t give up that after conceding we were going to lose the game.
The result pushed Nations FC into 11th on 16 points from 13 matches and Heart Lions dropped into 3rd on 23 points, one behind Aduana and three away from leaders Medeama SC.
