Ghana Premier League: Aduana shock Heart of Lions to go top

Heart of Lions suffered a second straight defeat following Friday’s 0-1 loss at home to Aduana FC in Week 14 of the Ghana Premier League.

The Kpando-based club last week gave away a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at Nations FC and they crumbled for the second time on the trot.

In an expectant encounter at the Kpando Stadium, both clubs fought tooth and nail in search of an early opener but none of their efforts produced goals in the first half.

Aduana FC however lifted their game a notch higher, taking the game to Heart of Lions with their plans paying off five minutes after returning for the second department of the game. The visitors found the opener through a carefully curated attack down the right hand side with Adomako Boateng sending in a cross for Patrick Mensah to smash home with his left foot in the 50th minute.

The complexion of the game changed a bit with Heart of Lions coming into the game briefly with quick incursions on the wings, but they struggled to turn those attacks into goals.

Seedorf Asante fluffed a glorious opportunity to put Heart of Lions level but his header in the 78th minute from Faisal Tsorhwe’s lob missed the crossbar by inches, keeping Aduana still in the lead.

Aduana held on to the 1-0 lead with the status-quo remaining to push the twotime Ghana Premier League champions temporarily on top of the standings on 27 points, one above Medeama who will play Gold Stars next week.

The defeat was Heart of Lions second in a row and fourth straight without a win while Aduana were held to a goalless draw at home by Basake Holy Stars in Week 13. Heart of Lions remain in third on the table with 23 points from 14 matches with the remaining fixtures set to be cleared on Saturday and Sunday.

The Ghana Premier League matchday 14 fixture between Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama has been postponed following Medeama’s release of five players to the domestic-based Ghana national team for their international friendly against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on December 16.
