Asante Kotoko climbed into second spot on the Ghana Premier League table following a 2-0 victory over Eleven Wonders in match day 15 on Wednesday at the Legon Sports Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors had recorded just one win in six games prior to meeting the strugglers and they needed a win to keep the chase at the top four alive.
The record Ghana Premier League holders picked two draws against Medeama and Samartex before suffering losses against new boys Hohoe United and Holy Stars.
A 1-0 win over Dreams FC in match day 14 reignited their title hopes with the victory at Eleven Wonders pushing them into second level on 27 points with Medeama.
The two time African champions shot themselves ahead from the effort of Peter Amidu Acquah who scrambled through Eleven Wonders defenders before striking in the 17th minute.
Amidu Acquah came close to increasing the tally just in the penalty area but he blew wide Lord Amoah’s low cross four minutes after the opener.
Kwame Opoku was teed off in the 33rd minute however the striker’s lob ended up on the tartan tracks. Asante pushed more men forward in a bid to double the tally and attacker, Johnson Owusu left it late in the 89th minute to ice the cake.
Asante Kotoko share 27 points with Medeama SC, just one point behind leaders and two time champions Aduana FC with two games to finish the first half of the Ghana Premier League season.
