Ghana Premier League: Asante Kotoko claw a point at Medeama

Medeama and Asante Kotoko sold out an entertaining draw at the Tarkwa TnA Park on Sunday afternoon in Match week 16.

Kotoko were looking to keep the chase on leaders, Heart of Lions who had 30 points, three ahead of the Porcupine Warriors after match day 15.

Their dream of keeping the chase at the top was brought alive when returnee striker, Kwame Opoku jumped above Medeama’s back line and connected Andrews Ntim’s free kick with a perfect header for their opener on the 44th minute mark.

The record Ghana Premier League holders held on to the slim lead with Medeama left to chase shadows in search of the equalizer.

The Mauve and Yellow on the other hand needed the three points badly to climb above mid-table as they sat in 7th on 24 points after week 15.

The first half finished at 1-0 for Asante Kotoko with Medeama sent into the dressing room to regroup and look for the equalizer in the second department of the game.

The second half resumed with Medeama knocking extremely hard to find the equalizer which finally paid off with 64 minutes played when defender, Kamaradini Mamudu pulled level.

Both clubs remained cautious, not wanting to concede with centre referee of the day, Daniel Laryea blowing his whistle for the end of the game.

The entire proceedings ended with points shared by both clubs leaving Asante Kotoko supporters biting their fingers over the two points lost.

The two time African champions now sit in 6th on 25 points from 16 games – three behind rivals Hearts of Oak who defeated Legon Cities by 1-0 on Friday evening. Medeama, who have a game in hand sit in 7th on 25 points, three behind Asante Kotoko.
