The biggest derby of the Ghana Premier League between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko livened up the capital on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium but ended in a disapponting scoreless draw.
The two top most clubs have struggled with form this season with Kotoko however closer to the title than the Phobians.
The first twenty minutes did not produce much firepower with both clubs playing cautiously. Kotoko however showed traces of a club that wanted goals the more with Kwame Opoku coming closer for the Porcupine Warriors.
Hearts of Oak came out of their shells momentarily when Konadu Yiadom rose high but his header was well dealt with by Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara on the 33rd minute. The uneventful first half ended with both sides failing to find the back of the net.
The second half brought some good glimpses with goalkeepers of both clubs, Mohammed Camara for Kotoko and Benjamin Asare of the Phobians keeping their clubs in the game with clean saves.
The score line remained the same with spoils shared at the nation’s capital. Hearts of Oak earned a point to go on 46 points from 30 matches. Kotoko remained in 4th on 51 points.
In another fixture, Nations FC climb into top spot with a 1-0 win over Accra Lions at the Dr. Kyei Sports Complex. The victory gave Nations 54 points from 30 matches with Heart of Lions climbing into second on 53 points following a 2-1 over Samartex.
