Ghana Premier League clubs are set to receive an amount of GHc 1 million cedis [$95,277.66 dollars] before the 2025/26 domestic top flight campaign begins.
The amount for the clubs results from a new partnership deal between the Ghana Football Association [GFA] and Adesa Production Limited (APL) for the production of the upcoming 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
At the signing ceremony in Accra on Thursday, President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku confirmed the deal in his key note speech.
“With the new partnership with Adesa Production, each GPL Club will receive GHC1 million cedis before the start of the season,” Mr Okraku said.
Clubs will also receive reasonable amounts of money based on their finish in the league log, promoting healthy competition and encouraging teams to strive for excellence.
“Whether you place first or twentieth, your effort, your performance, your participation will yield financial benefit,” the GFA President explained. “This brings meaning to every game and keeps the competitive spirit alive throughout the season.
“Why should Ghanaian footballers have to leave to be appreciated, when we can make this league a destination in itself?” he queried.
“We may not be able to match the multimillion-dollar deals offered by external clubs, but we can make our clubs so attractive, that our players will face a difficult decision when faced with the prospect of leaving Ghana.”
This initiative aims to boost the economic impact of clubs in the Ghana Premier League, potentially attracting more investments and sponsorships into the sport.
By providing financial stability, the GFA hopes to minimize player exodus, retaining top talent in the league and making it more attractive to foreign players.
