Berekum Chelsea forward Stephen Amankona has signed for Egypt Premier League club Smouha SC ahead of next season’s campaign.
Amankona joins Smouha on a three-year deal, beginning a new chapter in his professional career. The 25-year-old has won top scorer accolades in the Ghana Premier League over the last two seasons – the 2023/24 and the 2024/25 campaigns.
He spent the 2021-2022 Ghana Premier League season at Asante Kotoko but made a return to Berekum Chelsea at the end of the season.
He was a member of Ghana’s senior national “B” team which lost a two-legged tie against Nigeria in qualifying for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Ghana were held to a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium before losing by 3-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria in the reverse fixture with Amankona scoring the only goal for the Black Galaxies.
Amankona will look to prove himself at the Blue Waves who will look to better their performance next season after finishing 16th on the Nile Egyptian League table.
