Ghana Premier League: Heart of Lions coach Bashir Hayford extols player discipline in Dreams win

Heart of Lions got their season off to a winning start, beating Dreams fc by 1-0 in the opener of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League at the Kpando Stadium on Sunday.

Captain of the club, Ebenezer Abban converted from the spot in the first half with Dreams fc failing to come back. Heart of Lions head coach Bashir Hayford has credited his players for playing according to instructions.

Dreams difficult to beat

“Dreams has been a bogey club for us and it was not easy beating them,” Bashir said at the post-match interview.

“I am happy with the instructions I gave to my attackers that they should control [the ball], and when they enter the 18-yard [box], they should not panic because there’s another option if they are brought down [penalty]. And that was the only goal of the match,” Hayford added.

Heart of Lions who finished second in last season’s top flight on 60 points, will now face newly promoted Eleven Wonders in their next encounter at the Ohene Ameyaw Stadium.
