Both clubs came into the fixture with Eleven Wonders needing three points to lift their confidence after picking just a point from their two opening matches. Hearts of Oak had collected four points from two games and chasing the three points was key in keeping tabs with Medeama who have won their two opening fixtures.
With the game wearing on, Hearts midfielder Raphael Amponsah attempted from a distance but Eleven Wonders goalkeeper, Joseph Baah punched into corner kick for the record FA Cup holders.
Wonders failed to clear their lines properly with Hearts of Oak’s second corner kick resulting into the opener. Enoch Esubonteng fired the Phobians ahead in the 18th minute when he slapped in from close range after a goalmouth melee.
Hearts of Oak were dealt a big blow when Ali Mohammed was stretchered off injured with Baba Adamu replacing him in the 30th minute mark. Hamza Issah found himself in a good position to increase the tally but his attempt around the half hour mark was grabbed by the visitors keeper, Joseph Baah.
The second department of the game went a notch higher in tempo with Hearts of Oak exerting more pressure on the visitors. Ransford Mensah slalomed his way into Eleven Wonders final third however his effort only earned the 2000 CAF Champions League winners a corner kick in the 52nd minute.
Eleven Wonders came out of their shells momentarily with flashes of attacks but then the resultant incursion only went to Hearts keeper, Benjamin Asare. Wonders took a bite at another attack with Frank Awere skying his effort from a corner kick in the 60th minute to still keep the score line at 1-0 in Hearts of Oak’s favour.
A beautiful play ensued in the 65th minute with Hearts of Oak exchanging passes confidently however substitute striker, Fank Duku’s final strike was pushed into corner by Joseph Baah in post for Eleven Wonders.
Eleven Wonders made a frantic and a final push in search of the equalizer but their efforts were not enough as the game ended 1-0 for Hearts of Oak to take them to seven points from three matches.
