Accra Lions’ quest to move father from the relegation zone was given a jolt by Hearts of Oak to begin Week 32 from the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Accra Lions needed the three points to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation to Division One alive but the Phobians had other ideas on the road to routing the young visitors.
Hearts of Oak found the opener earlier in the game when Emmanuel Asubonteng shot them ahead with just 12 minutes played. The solitary goal remain same moving into the half time.
Accra Lions looked better in the second half, looking composed on the ball with effective passing game.
Their incursions helped them find the equalizer through a long ranger from Lawrence Setordjie. Hearts of Oak made a poor clearance of a corner kick which fell the way of the 16-year-old who smashed home the leveler from outside the penalty area on the 70th minute.
Hearts of Oak did not rest on their oars and they kept searching for the lead. Their exertions paid off when Kwabena Boateng slalomed past an array of Accra Lions defenders before setting up Kwesi Asmah to score Hearts of Oak’s second goal of the game on the 80th minute.
There was a magical moment for the 2000 CAF Champions League winners when goalkeeper Benjamin Asare sent a long pass from his area, locating Hamza Issah who wove around an Accra Lions defender to put the ball behind the net to peg the game at 3-1 on the 90th minute mark.
The game ended after the minutes of added time, compounding the woes of Accra Lions. Accra Lions remain in 16th on 35 points from 32 matches with the remaining games to be cleared on Sunday May 24.
