Kotoko were coming into the game at the Hohoe Stadium from a nerve wracking 2-2 draw at home to Medeama SC in week 12 and they needed a win badly to placate their fans.
The newly promoted Ghana Premier League side however showed a lot of grit in the first half, combining physical play and flair in midfield and attack with Kotoko equally matching them with great composure.
A quick break for Hohoe United earned them a free kick in Asante Kotoko’s final third and William Oduro swept in brilliantly in the 25th minute behind Kotoko goalkeeper Mohamed Camara .
Asante Kotoko struggled to break Hohoe United’s rock solid back line led by Kwame Paul, ending the first half at 1-0 for the hosts. The Kumasi giants made frantic efforts in search of the equalizer in the second half but they lacked the cutting edge in Hohoe United’s final third.
The Porcupine Warriors came closer to finding the equalizer later on. However, Peter Amidu Acquah’s well floated ball ricocheted the cross bar for a Hohoe United goal kick in the 84th minute.
Hohoe United now move into 9th on 17 points with Kotoko sharing 21 points with Samartex and Hearts of Oak in 5th.
In another fixture, Eric Antwi scored a brace as Karela United sank record FA Cup holders Hearts of Oak by 2-0 at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale on Sunday.
