There will be a re-union for coach Tijani Abdul Bashiru when his current club, Hohoe United face his former club, Hearts of Oak in the opening fixture of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.
The newly promoted club will travel to the Accra Sports Stadium as guests of the 2000 CAF Champions League winners in match day 1, a game coach Tijani Bashiru discussed with the media during their pre-match press conference.
“I think this fixture is going to give us a lot of opportunities because it’s the first game and you know during the first game of the season, anything can happen.
“So when you look at Hearts of Oak, anytime they play against debutants, they always lose so hopefully it is going to happen this time around,” Tijani Bashiru told Hohoe United media.
“When you are playing a team like Hearts of Oak as a young team as Hohoe United, the boys have to motivate themselves. In these kinds of matches you don’t need a coach to motivate you or anybody, this is the game that you need self-confidence and self-motivation to go into the game so I think the boys are ready and they will go all out.” He added.
Hohoe United will look to replicate the form they exhibited during their qualification matches in the Division One League last season where they collected 72 to be crowned champions in Zone Three in 30 matches.
The Ghana Football Association granted approval for the change of name from Liberty Professionals to Hohoe United in June 2023, after they were relegated from the league in the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League.
