Ghana Premier League: Holders GoldStars topple Medeama, Kotoko wallop Nations

Asante Kotoko clawed an emphatic victory despite posting a drab performance against Nations FC in week 26 of the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors had claimed just four points in their last five matches prior to hosting Nations FC at the Baba Yara Stadium.

In an evenly contested first half, right-back, Emmanuel Kotei’s cross was met with a thumping header from Albert Amoah for Kotoko’s opener in the 23rd minute.

The opener separated the two sides into the half time break despite Nations FC fluffing a number of opportunities before the break.

The record Ghana Premier League holders were awarded a penalty in the 85th minute with captain Samba O’Neil stepping up to score his 6th of the season and Kotoko’s second goal of the day from the spot.

Morifing Donzo was brought down inside the area late in the game with Guinean import scoring to triple the tally for Kotoko.

The 3-0 victory is Kotoko’s second in six games, pushing them level on 42 points as rivals Hearts of Oak in 26 games.

Former champions, Medeama lost their grip at the top of the table following a 2-1 loss at Dreams on Sunday.

Medeama per the defeat have now gone six league matches without a win, recording three draws and three losses.

Reigning champions GoldStars leapfrogged Medeama to the top of the table with a 1-0 win at home to Vision FC on Sunday.
