Ghana Premier League club Karela United has set an audacious target of finishing in the Top Four in the 2025-26 top-flight season.
The Tamale-based club endured a torrid journey last season, where they escaped relegation by a whisker. They collected 41 points, six above the drop, to finish 14th from 34 matches.
The club signed experienced coach Amadu Nurudee, who guided them to safety at the end of last season.
The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season kicks off on September 12 and runs through to May 24, 2026. Communications Director of Karela United, Sey Mubarak, opened up about their ambitions for next season.
“We were very glad when he decided to extend his contract because he came in at a very difficult time when we were struggling in the second round, and fortunately, he used his experience to guide us in the top flight,” Sey Mubarak told Radio Gold.
“We had to convince him to stay because many of us thought that was all because he signed a short-term contract; however, he took the risk to bring Karela United back to its glory days.
“We are glad he has stayed, and looking at the work he has done so far, especially getting some quality players, I think that we are expecting bigger things this particular season.
“Fortunately for us, we met the bankroller of the club, Haruna Iddrisu, during our pre-season, and he engaged us and said that with the quality he has seen this year, at least the target should be the Top Four.” Sey Mubarak added.
Karela United was originally based in Ainyinase in the Western Region of Ghana before it was acquired by politician Haruna Iddrisu, who is the current Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Tamale South. He moved the club to Tamale, where they play their home games at the Aliu Mahama Stadium.
