Asante Kotoko left it late to beat Dreams fc 1-0 in week 14 of the Ghana Premier League match on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors had gone four matches without a win and they needed to dig deep to claw all three points to appease their angry fans.
It was Dreams FC who started well in the first half when Jonathan Nemordeen had a glorious opportunity to put them ahead but his missed the post by inches after rounding off Kotoko defender Lord Amoah and keeper Mohamed Camara in the 20th minute.
Kotoko’s Walid Fuseini Neymar was left cursing his stars when he missed a glaring chance inside Dreams fc penalty area in the 30th minute.
Hubert Gyau equally came close for Kotoko minutes later however his effort hit the side net, letting Dreams fc off the hook.
Both clubs created some decent scoring chances in the dying embers of the first half but it ended goalless.
Back in the second half Kwame Opoku was placed in a comfortable position to shoot Kotoko into the lead in the 68th minute but he blew his opportunity wide over the cross bar much to the shock of the fans.
Dreams fc came close with a stunning free kick from Ebenezer Adade in the 76th minute however keeper Mohamed Camara saved the situation for Asante Kotoko.
Dreams fc had five defenders caught ball watching after Lord Amoah’s free with Kwame Opoku taking advantage to put Kotoko ahead in the 80th minute. Referee William Agbovi Junior whistled for the end of the game with Kotoko moving level on 24 points with Hearts of Oak in 3rd position on the table.
Dreams fc on the other hand dropped into the relegation zone sitting 16th on 14 points from 14 games so far this campaign.
The matchday 14 fixture between Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama has been postponed following Medeama’s release of five players to the domestic-based Ghana national team for their international friendly against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on December 16.
