Ghana Premier League: Kotoko rescue a home point against Medeama

Asante Kotoko fought from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Medeama in the Ghana Premier League week 12 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

Kotoko began the first half on a good note, exerting early pressure but Medeama remained calm, containing the heat with ease.

Medeama’s calm control of the game saw them make a swift incursion with Derick Fordjour opening the floodgates in the 5th minute when he smashed in Abdul Salam’s perfect cross from the left side of the field.

Kotoko shot up their performance with Guinean import, Morifing Donzo rattling the upright in the 12th minute from Lord Amoah’s incisive cross.

The visitors however continued to keep their composure and moments later, were awarded a penalty in the 16th minute when Prince Owusu was fouled in the area.

Defender Yussif Mubarik made no mistake in planting the ball behind Kotoko keeper Mohamed Camara in the 17th minute to make the score line 2-0.

Asante Kotoko were denied by the woodwork in the final minute of the first half, with referee Alex Amoabeng ending the chapter after the five minutes of added time elapsed.

Both clubs looked a bit lethargic in the first ten minutes of the second half, failing to create a single decent shot on target.

However, Peter Amidu Acquah pulled a goal back with a screaming strike after a fine move on the right side of the field in the 58th minute mark.

Kotoko enjoyed a lion share of possession from that moment , making life difficult for Medeama with quick breaks at the flanks but they struggled to connect for the equalizer.

Kotoko however found the equalizer when captain, Samba O’neil connected Lord Amoah’s free kick with thundering header in added time.

With the seven minutes of added time exhausted, Medeama claimed a point moving to the summit of the league table on 23 points, same as Heart of Lions and Aduana FC. Asante Kotoko now have 21 points same as rivals Hearts of Oak in 5th.
