Ghana Premier League: Heart of Lions hold Asante Kotoko in Kumasi

Asante Kotoko were held to a goalless draw by Heart of Lions in Week Four of the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors came into the game with confidence having eliminated Kwara United from the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

It was an eventful clash in the first department of the match when a good exchange by Heart of Lions positioned striker Chauncy Freeman to set up Kwadwo Obeng Junior, but he failed to take the chance with his strike going wide in the 19th minute.

The hosts came close to finding the lead when Lord Amoah’s cross found Albert Amoah in the 26th minute, but Albert Amoah’s overhead kick rattled the cross bar.

Goalkeeper Aziz Haruna Dari came to the rescue of the Porcupine Warriors in the 42nd minute when he parried Yaw Danso’s well taken free kick outside the penalty area.

The first half ended with Heart of Lions winning the midfield battle and the hosts resorting to long balls into the opponent area. Both sides sized each other up in the second half with Albert Amoah coming close for the Ghana FA Cup winners on a number of occasions.

Heart of Lions on the other hand failed to create clear scoring chances with Kotoko keeper Aziz Dari virtually on a holiday. With five minutes of added time exhausted, referee Charles Bulu ended the game with one point shared between the teams.

It was the Kumasi giants’ second game of the season due to their involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup. They have four points, six points back of leaders Heart of Lions who have ten points from four matches.
