Ghana Premier League: Ibrahim Tanko, Frimpong Manso trade words ahead of Medama-Nations clash

Medeama’s quest to take an unassailable lead will be tested by Nations FC in Matchday 21 from the Ghana Premier League on Friday at the Dr. Kyei Complex.

Medeama, who are two-time Ghana FA Cup champions, have gone unbeaten in their last nineteen matches with twelve wins, seven draws and one loss in total. Ahead of their next fixture against Nations, head coach of Medeama Ibrahim Tanko knows expectations are high.

“We prepare every game almost the same because all the games are very difficult and like you said, we are going away and it’s a live match so the expectation is high and so we have to prepare for them on Friday,” Ibrahim Tanko told MEDi TV.

Medeama recently transferred their dependable right-back, Kamaradini Mamudu, to Sudanese club Al Hilal SC and Ibrahim Tanko admitted that they will miss his services but have equal replacements.

“Kamaradini Mamudu is a really fantastic guy both on and off the field. It’s very painful that we are going to miss him [but] life must go on and he must look elsewhere and try to continue his career, I wish him very well and I hope that he goes there and conquers like he did here,” Ibrahim Tanko told MEDi TV.

“Definitely we are going to miss him [but] we still have three right backs that can also step into his footsteps.”

Medeama lead the league table with 43 points, eight above two time champions Aduana FC, Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak after 20-matches played.

In the same vein, Nations FC head coach, Stephen Frimpong Manso reacted to “facing a good side.”

“Medeama are a very good team and they had an excellent pre-season, including a tour to Abidjan. Looking at their current position, their squad remains intact and very experienced.

“The league is a different challenge altogether,” he noted. “We have not lost at home this season. Despite the experience they bring, we are determined to go for a win in this match. It may look difficult, but we must believe in ourselves.”

“We are not focusing on the opponent; we are focusing on where we are playing and how to take advantage of that,” he explained. “This is our home ground, where we train every day, and we must make the best use of it.”
